An Examination of Message Equivalency
Presented by Angela Petrone Stratiy

This workshop will focus on how to convey an equivalent message from the source language, English, to the target language, ASL, ensuring access to linguistic and cultural information. Participants will be provided hands-on opportunities to practice, and participate in discussions. There will be times for questions & answers. We will watch and discuss videotapes as well. Strategies will be discussed as how to effectively represent an equivalent message in the target language. Educational objectives include… conveying the source language accurately from English to ASL, identifying and producing correct use of ASL structure for the equivalency of meaning and concept. We will also identify the types of strategies that enhance the clarity of the message.
